Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hoffritz HZFD2 Fondue MakerCustomer Review: Perfect! Summary: 5 Stars
We decided on an electric fondue for ease of use and safety with our daughter. This one couldn't have been a better choice. This weekend we made both cheese and chocolate fondue. First, nice thing is that it gets hot enough that you can cook right in the fondue pot not on the stove and then have to transfer it. Turned to the #4 setting the wine for the cheese fondue was boiling in about two minutes and then the fondue was complete just a few minutes later (err on the side of using a slightly lower setting so you don't have to be as observant). Once made, you reduce the hear to serving temp and the Hoffritz kept the temp rock steady - didn't have to adjust it once. Chocolate fondue worked just as perfectly.Pluses, using Pam the clean-up was really easy. Even though the pot is dishwasher safe, it cleaned up in the sink easily (for the chocolate, I soaked it for about five minutes). The forks are good quality - never felt like they were going to bend or break. Slight minuses -- The cord is really short. They probably all are that way for safety reasons, but you just have to use an extension cord which sort of defeats the purpose of making it short. The base gets pretty hot. I guess something has to heat up <g>, but it makes it a bit of a pain if you have to move it around the table. All in all a five star+.
Description of Hoffritz HZFD2 Fondue MakerWith its 700-watt heating base, this fondue maker eliminates the fuss of heating a mixture on the stovetop first and then lighting a chemical burner underneath the serving pot. The base has four temperature settings for heating cheese, broth, oil, and chocolate fondues from scratch and then maintaining them at a serving temperature. The fondue maker is also useful for serving warm buffet food and hot dips such as bagna cauda. Handsomely made of stainless steel with a satin finish, the pot holds 2 quarts, ample for six guests. It has a rubberized, stay-cool handle with a stainless-steel inset. The base is clad in matching stainless steel, with a black plastic accent band around the bottom. Six color-coded stainless-steel forks with plastic handles and a removable ring to hold the forks in place on the pot's rim are included. The forks and pot are dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack
